- Statement of Faith -

Concerning Scripture

We believe that the Bible is the inspired, inerrant, authoritative Word of God.  We affirm the verbal, plenary inspiration of the Scriptures.  We reject the claim that the Bible merely contains God’s word, and the claim that God is inspiring additional revelation today.

Concerning God

We believe that there is one God, eternally existent in three persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit.  We reject the claim that God does not know the future (“openness”) and the claim that God is to be addressed as “she”.

Concerning Jesus Christ

We believe in the deity of our Lord Jesus Christ, in His virgin birth, in His sinless life, in His miracles, in His vicarious and atoning death through His shed blood on the Cross, in His bodily resurrection, in His ascension to the right hand of the Father, and in His personal return in power and glory.  We reject the claim that Jesus was only an exemplar of God, and the claim that Jesus’ death saves even the unbelieving.

Concerning Salvation

We believe that salvation must come through personal faith in the Gospel, that is through the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ alone and that no works, or indulgences or any other contrivance can bring about or add to the work of Christ.    This gift is caused by the regenerating work of the Holy Spirit.  We believe that those who do not believe in the Gospel are sadly condemned to an everlasting Hell, and that it is the work of every Christian to share the Gospel with a lost and unbelieving world.  We believe that all who believe the Gospel shall spend eternity in Heaven with our Lord Jesus Christ.  We reject the claim that all the lost will be saved regardless of their rebellion and the claim that Christ mediates salvation through the world’s religions.

Concerning The Holy Spirit

We believe in the present ministry of the Holy Spirit by whose indwelling the Christian is enabled to live a godly life.  We endorse that the Holy Spirit is the giver of all spiritual gifts and abilities, and that God can and does act consistently within the parameters of the Scriptures.  We reject the claim that the Holy Spirit is working through the current false revivals and the claim that God is doing a “new thing”, which is in fact contrary to the Word of God in teaching and lifestyle.

Concerning The Resurrection

We believe in the resurrection of both the saved and the lost; and that this resurrection, following the pattern of the firstfruit of the resurrection – Jesus Christ, is the exact person who lived, died and then was raised.  We reject that the resurrected Jesus was merely an appearance or a apparition.

Concerning Christian Unity

We believe in the spiritual unity of believers in our Lord Jesus Christ.  We further believe that this unity is and must be based on the truth of the Scriptures alone.  We reject the notion that “doctrine divides” and therefore must be avoided.  We also reject the notion that truth is not as important as love and that therefore unity can be based on mere sentiment.

Concerning Truth

We believe that there is objective truth (that is truth that is outside of ourselves and discoverable by any who seek it).  We further believe that God’s ethical standards are absolutes, (that is they apply to all times and all peoples).  We reject the postmodern ( or postcritical, postliberal, postconservative or by whatever other name it might go by) notion that truth is inherent within the individual or community and further reject the “hermeneutic of suspicion” that undermines the authority of the Word of God.

The Gospel

"But even if we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel to you than what we have preached to you, let him be accursed." - Galatians 1:8

The Amsterdam Affirmations

The fifteen points known as the Amsterdam Affirmations were developed and released at the International Conference for Itinerant Evangelists held at Amsterdam, The Netherlands, in July 1983. The conference, known as Amsterdam ’83, brought over 4000 evangelists from 133 nations of the world. These statements were individually and corporately affirmed by the assembled evangelists at the conclusion of the conference. The text was taken from “A Biblical Standard for Evangelists,” by Billy Graham.

1 - We confess Jesus Christ as God, our Lord and Savior, who is revealed in the Bible, which is the infallible Word of God.
2- We affirm our commitment to the Great Commission of our Lord, and we declare our willingness to go anywhere, do anything, and sacrifice anything God requires of us in the fulfillment of that Commission.
3 - We respond to God’s call to the biblical ministry of the evangelist, and accept our solemn responsibility to preach the Word to all peoples as God gives opportunity.
4 - God loves every human being, who, apart from faith in Christ, is under God’s judgment and destined for hell.
5 - The heart of the biblical message is the good news of God’s salvation, which comes by grace alone through faith in the risen Lord Jesus Christ and His atoning death on the cross for our sins.
6 - In our proclamation of the Gospel we recognize the urgency of calling all to decision to follow Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, and to do so lovingly and without coercion or manipulation.
7 - We need and desire to be filled and controlled by the Holy Spirit as we bear witness to the Gospel of Jesus Christ, because God alone can turn sinners from their sin and bring them to everlasting life.
8 - We acknowledge our obligation, as servants of God, to lead lives of holiness and moral purity, knowing that we exemplify Christ to the church and to the world.
9 - A life of regular and faithful prayer and Bible study is essential to our personal spiritual growth, and to our power for ministry.
10 - We will be faithful stewards of all that God gives us, and will be accountable to others in the finances of our ministry, and honest in reporting our statistics.
11 - Our families are a responsibility given to us by God, and are a sacred trust to be kept as faithfully as our call to minister to others.
12 - We are responsible to the church, and will endeavor always to conduct our ministries so as to build up the local body of believers and serve the church at large.
13 - We are responsible to arrange for the spiritual care of those who come to faith under our ministry, to encourage them to identify with the local body of believers, and seek to provide for the instruction of believers in witnessing to the Gospel.
14 - We share Christ’s deep concern for the personal and social sufferings of humanity, and we accept our responsibility as Christians and as evangelists to do our utmost to alleviate human need.
15 - We beseech the Body of Christ to join with us in prayer and work for peace in our world, for revival and a renewed dedication to the biblical priority of evangelism in the church, and for the oneness of believers in Christ for the fulfillment of the Great Commission, until Christ returns.
